These slides are based on the poem by Thomas Hardy "On the departure platform". The poem is straightforward, so students can get a good time enjoying it. The lesson starts with some general questions in order to lead students to the theme: love. As a warm-up, I suggest the trailer from the movie "Love Actually" or the scene (at the train station) from the movie " Slumdog Millionaire". There are many lexical exercises, so students should rephrase the poem by replacing some words with synonyms.
