There is a whole bunch of words, phrases and abbreviations that originally are Latin but are still used in English. The most favourite of my ss' is probably “etc.” – the word that is used to make somebody think that you know more than you actually do :) Anyways, since they are used, they should be taught. Here’s a simple worksheet on Latin abbreviations in English. As an addition there’s also a matching activity for finding Latin equivalents of English proverbs/sayings and discussing them. Can be used at any lesson on vocabulary expansion or as a warmer/filler. My ss loved making "tattoos" (in pen of course) with new quotes they liked after the lesson.
