Children write about their last holidays - great for practicing the simple past. This does not have to be a real story - they can write an imaginary one, too. Also, if you are teaching the future tense "going to" they can plan their holidays. Moreover, it's useful for upper level pupils who can express their wishes about where they would like to go.
