This is an advanced level lesson based on the television programme The Secret Millionaire. Due to the issues involved this is recommended for older teenagers or adults. Students watch an episode of the show (Series 1, Episode 4) and complete a variety of listening and speaking tasks based on this. They then act as representatives of an imaginary charity to present funding applications, not knowing that one of their group has been designated as 'the secret millionaire' and will distribute imaginary funds in the end. The listening task practices some of the skills needed for Cambridge exams (loosely), while the speaking activity focuses on language of persuasion and also presentation skills. The episode in question is available on DVD if it can't be found on YouTube. The speaking activity would actually work as a standalone activity if you didn't have access to the DVD. Notes for teachers, an answer key and DVD time-references are provided.
