The IELTS exam has a three-part speaking module. The second part almost always focuses on one of four broad categories: a person, place, object or situation, which the candidate has to describe in two minutes. These speaking ideas will hopefully give you some extra practice for your students and will provide some high-frequency topics, many of which were used in past IELTS exams in my country. Use this as follows: ask students to think about one idea at a time. The question is always the same: describe a.... giving details and examples. Give them one minute to prepare it and write bullet points in the boxes and then talk for about two minutes non-stop.
