This is a listening exercise using Bob Marley's song War as a starting point for perhaps talking about Remembrance/Veteran's Day on Nov. 11. In Oct. 1963, Ethiopia's emperor Haile Selassie made a speech about racial discrimination - another topic you might want to talk about - to the UN. His words became the basis for this song from Marley's 'Exodus' album. The song is being sung slowly, so students should be able to follow without problems. I erased some of the words and gave the number of missing letters instead. You can find the complete lyrics anywhere on the internet. After completion, pupils can read the text out loud and debate what stands in the way of lasting peace ever arriving.
