This is an activity that can be used for any level, as you can adjust it to be more or less complex according to your students' abilities. The phrases should be cut up into cards (preferably laminated) and taken at random to start a conversation, or it can be a timed speaking activity. For beginners, for example, you could give each student 2 minutes to simply name ten items as specified in the card. For more advanced students, you could dispense with the timing but insist on a more descriptive response (including adverbs, adjectives, relative clauses, etc.). Or you could ask the student holding the card to describe the '10 things' to his/her partner who then has to guess where these things can be seen/done/heard. Please feel free to add any '10 things' categories you can think of!
