This worksheet, called 'Weather Worksheet: Billy and Maria Learn About Tornado Safety - Part 3', was originally provided by National Weather Service and is also available as a free download at their website. This is a 14-page document from 'Billy and Maria' series, and it presents the third and the last out of three chapters dedicated to tornadoes, how they are formed, possible consequences and how to stay safe when travelling through the areas previously hit by a tornado.
The worksheet is giving the continuation of the story presented in Part 2, about Billy's family who took Maria with them to visit Billy's cousin in another town. They were lucky to complete their trip unharmed, but they were very worried about Henry, who lived in a town hit by the tornado they saw on their way. As they were driving through the town, they observed the devastating effects of the tornado. They had to turn around a couple of times, to avoid dangers of flooding water and broken electrical lines. Everyone was happy to find out that Henry took cover in a storm shelter, since staying in his mobile home was very unsafe during the tornado.
The worksheet gives a list of safety rules that should be followed in house, in car or in a mobile home as a wrapping up activity, and there is also an empty template for additional tips that studens are encouraged to brainstorm about. As usually, the worksheet is followed by some facts about the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, National Weather Service and National Severe Storms Laboratory, and their mission statements and responsibilities. The last page of the worksheet is a standard reference sheet for 'Billy and Maria' series.
