Song Worksheet: Have You Ever by Brandy (Present Perfect)

'Have you ever?' by Brandy is the best song I have found so far with the continual use of the present perfect tense throughout the song. It is at a reasonable speed and sung clearly to allow intermediate students and upwards to follow the song relatively easily.

1. Play the song, ask students to guess the name of the song, think about the meaning of it, and identify the most frequent tense used.
2. Hand-out the worksheets. Go through the song task-by-task, making sure you play each particular verse a few times to allow the students a chance to listen to the words and have a go at singing them.
3. Hand-out the full lyrics sheet. Ask students to underline the present perfect tense. Sing the song in full a few times.
4. If time permits, put the students in groups and ask them to rewrite particular verses using their own ideas but keeping the present perfect tense evident.

Other songs I found that could be used for the teaching and practice of the present perfect tense;
